Uriah Rodriguez and Alondra Mariscal

The candidate running for the position of ASB treasurer is Uriah Rodriguez and the candidate running for the position of class president is Alondra Mariscal. Uriah is a member of the National Honors Society, MESA, ASB, boys volleyball, and Interact club. Alondra is a member of MESA, leadership, and is currently attending a program offered by the California State University, Los Angeles.

Q: Why did you decide to run for this position?

Uriah: I decided to run for the ASB treasurer this up-and-coming year for multiple reasons. Firstly, I wanted to continue my engagement in the school board because with the experience I have gained I want the best and only the best for the entire school. Secondly, I ran for the position to have a say in the school and build my collaboration skills in order to bring the best for a hopefully normal school year.

Alondra: I’m running for sophomore class president because I want to make the changes I’ve always wanted—to make students feel involved and part of something.

Q: What do you hope to bring or to change for the 2021-2022 school year?

Uriah: I hope to change the 2021-2022 school year for the families of friends. I want to change how low the class engagement is with certain classes and target them specifically so we can make sure our school has a strong ASB for a long time to come. I also want to help ensure there are no more awkward Zoom meetings with teachers.

Alondra: I hope to bring new ideas and inclusive activities to the 2021-2022 school year.

Q: What are the plans and goals you have for the next school year?

Uriah: My goals/plans are that I want the school friends to get back with each other and create a community again of MaCES students. I want students that were distant during online classes to be back and engaged in the class. I also have a goal to keep the student body and school spirit alive in order to have a thriving school environment. I would like to achieve my goal by providing what is needed by the school to have the best year back in school.

Alondra: Some ideas I have in mind for the next school year involve more art in the school, homework being the classwork assigned, free dress days, and more fun involving activities such as dances, contests, clubs, etc.

Q: What do you think makes you a strong candidate?

Uriah: What makes me a strong candidate is that I will never give up on a vision for the future of the school and each student. Everyone needs equal opportunities and I hope to bring that to the school and every student that attends. I believe that what makes me a strong candidate is my compassion for every student and for the school to succeed.

Alondra: I think I’m a strong candidate because I listen. I listen to people’s concerns and act on them. We come up with a solution together.

Q: Why should people vote for you?

Uriah: Students should vote for me because I will work in unison with each class and the school to bring joy to all the students that lost a year’s worth of experience in school and social interaction with peers. I will provide the best and have the best so the school can be a second home for the MaCES familia.

Alondra: People should vote for me because I want everyone to feel less stressed and to have their opinions heard. My biggest aim is for everyone to remember our sophomore year and for every event to be as enjoyable as possible even through a screen.
