Ms. Navarro is the ASB and leadership advisor. This is her second year as an advisor but her first year in person. “I believe in empowering young people – they have enormous power to be able to create change and have a positive impact in their community,” leadership advisor Ms. Navarro said.

Leadership is a student run class that provides students with the tools and resources they need to be successful in their future. Ms. Navarro has been one of the leadership advisors for two years now alongside Ms. Perfecto. Ms. Navarro also teaches AP Biology and Physiology.

With distance learning last year, this year is Ms. Navarro’s first year teaching the leadership class in person. The leadership class is made up of the ASB board, middle, and high school student representatives as well as the advisor. “I like how our leadership class includes middle school. The leadership class being accessible to both grades allows middle school students to grow as leaders and not restrict them from joining this class,” middle school leadership student Matthew Corona said.

Last year was difficult for the leadership class because everything was online. However, with the guidance of advisor Ms. Navarro, they were still able to put on events. In comparison, this year has been filled with events, with the biggest one being the Homecoming dance.

Ms. Navarro expressed how there was a lot of pressure coming back and putting on something that would be memorable after being gone for one and a half years. Ms. Navarro would say that none of this is possible without the students. While that is partially true, an advisor is still needed and plays an important role in the classroom. “Much like a coach, I guide students to gain skills necessary in order to become school leaders,” Ms. Navarro said when asked about her importance and impact in the classroom.

Ms. Navarro has impacted her students and helped them to become leaders, “She has helped me grow not only as a student but has guided me to becoming a leader at my school,” Michael Delgado, a junior and leadership student, said.
