Winter Sports Season Culminates

After three months of action, the regular season for the Wolfpack’s winter sports teams has culminated. With a combined 32 victories, all four teams have qualified for playoffs. The teams are practicing hard and are ready and confident they can build from their playoff experiences from the past season.

The boy’s basketball team provided eight of those victories, starting the season with their best record ever at six and one. The team struggled through January as they endured an eight-game losing streak. “I’m confident in their ability because league gave us a good test on the tough matchups coming up in playoffs,” coach Del Hierro said.  The Lady Pack basketball team won seven regular-season games. They won six straight to start; however, they went winless against their league opponents.

The boy’s soccer team won five times. They will participate in playoffs for the third straight season. “I feel like we are ready, we’ve improved a lot from the previous years,” Luis Tapias, a junior, said. The girl’s soccer team has won 12 games. They are coming off their appearance in the CIF City championship game. “I know that my girls want it, we came up short last year so I know they are hungry,” said Coach Cortez.

All four MACES winter teams will represent the Wolfpack in playoffs. All four are coming off playoff failure from the previous season and are hungry and motivated to bring championships to MACES.
