Debate Club to attend USC Summer Camp
June 8, 2022
In the summer of 2022 the debate club has the opportunity to go to a camp at USC. This camp will be about practicing how to debate. They will have the opportunity to do drills, get personal training, and participate in a 3-round debate tournament.
To be allowed to go they would need to apply online. It will be at no cost. They would also be provided with transportation and food.
“Huge benefits! Students get a chance to go to a college campus and get coached by debate experts and learn from students’ scores in the city. We are attempting to participate in debate tournaments for the first time. We are all newbies to this and it gives us better preparation and ideas for the next year,” said Mr.Bautista, the Debate Club advisor.

This summer camp will last a week. It will begin on July 25 and end on July 30. The camp would be from 9:30 a.m to 6 p.m. On the last day of the camp, the 30 of July, the students will be able to participate in a 3-round competition with their peers. It would be from 9:30 a.m to 7 p.m.
Aside from the students having a camp to get better prepared for the debate season of 2022-2023 their advisor will also have an opportunity to join a camp to prepare debate coaches.
“I am excited to learn something new as well,” said Mr.Bautista.
“I am most excited about meeting other debaters who started off just like us. I think listening to their experiences will help us go in the right direction and help us start off. The debate community is very competitive, yet very nice because at the end of the day, we all share the same interest and love for debate,” said Juliana Martinez, the president of the Debate Club.
The vice president of the club, Jaime Olguin, says that she and the president were able to find more details about this program through their advisor Mr.Bautista and their friends at Elizabeth Learning Center.
“I’m most excited about meeting fellow debaters and getting to experience this because it has been a scary but interesting journey in getting the debate team settled,” said Olguin.
