In the heart of the holiday season, the school Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) recently hosted two remarkable Christmas Musical Performances, where the talents of high school performers exploded with festive spirit. The carefully curated performance featured a diverse array of pieces, including Taylor Swift’s classic ‘Wildest Dreams’, the dynamic ‘Blaze’, timeless ‘Bell Carol Tidings’, family favorite ‘Have Yourself A Merry Christmas’, and timeless ‘Autumn From The Four Seasons’.
Creative mastermind behind the two-day Christmas performance, Music Director Ms.Rincon set out to provide students and parents with a memorable experience. The concert went off without a hitch, and students looked spectacular throughout the entire performance, leaving the audience in awe. However, the magic of the performance was caused by the extensive practice both middle and high schoolers underwent that made them spectacular. Although the groups officially started practicing in late October, preparations for the performance started as early as September, with students dedicating countless hours to refining their craft.
Freshman Juan Dueñas, a seasoned performer who has been attending MACES since the 6th grade, shared his insights on the preparations that went into the performance. According to Dueñas the key that lay into the team’s success was the amount of extensive practice, allowing each musician to refine their parts. “Rehearsals were a big part of the reason why we did so well in the performance,” said Dueñas, emphasizing the importance of the extensive practice sessions.
After the performance, some would believe that the musicians would celebrate their accomplishments. However, students say they often review their performance to understand where they could improve and where they made mistakes. “Usually after the concert we debrief the concert to see what we could’ve done better,” said Dueñas.
Musicians from the performance believe that learning an instrument should be something to consider among students. Describing how it is calming and can often stimulate the brain, as well as learning a new hobby. “It is also just fun to play in musicals with other people,” said Dueñas, he believes that being a part of the Wolfpack orchestra is one of the best decisions he ever made.
