It’s track season here at MACES and Osmin Guerrero, a junior and the head captain for the track team this season plans on running the 1600m, 3200m, and 800 meters. Guerrero joined the track team his freshman year with hopes of getting better at running. So far, he has enjoyed his journey and wants to continue improving himself while fostering the running community at school.
Guerrero said the reason he joined track was to keep improving his skills as an athlete.“I wanted to say between our school and other schools there is a dislike for running and I wanted to say that running has done miracles for me and who knows what it can do to you when you try it like meeting new people and giving you confidence,” Guerrero said.
David Cruz, a junior, said he plans on running long distances as he has experience in cross country. “My goal for the season is to be the fastest on the team and be good,” Cruz said that the practices so far have been fun, and he likes how he can do this sport with his friends. He also said the reason he joined the sport was to get better for his friends.
“I decided to do track and field this year because it’s my senior year and it’s going to be my 3rd and final year doing track and field,” Oscar Rosas, a senior, said. Rosas will be running the 4x100m, 4x400m, 100m and 200m. Rosa’s goal is to reach new personal records in every race and break the 100m school record that is still going strong and held by Adan Rodriquez, as well as win all of his races and go undefeated. “The practices at first were pretty hard. I’m not going to lie but by overworking and having consistency I feel better, and I am going to continue to keep working hard for myself and to represent MACES.”
