Near the end of the year, seniors prepare to walk the stage, leaving the school behind, and moving towards the future. In graduation plans, all students come together to celebrate the 12 years they spent working towards this day. A day where they want the people closest to them to go and watch as they finally step into the world, but how many people can attend this year’s graduation?
Students emphasize the need and want for unlimited seating arrangements as many students have more than four people they want in attendance. Last year graduating seniors were only given four tickets to decide who they wanted to attend their graduation. Many in the class started looking for people who didn’t need all four seats and offering them money for the spares. It caused much tension in the class, as many wanted extra tickets, but there weren’t many extras in “the market”.
“I think that if you have a lot of family members and only have four tickets, of course, you would want to have those close to you come to graduation,” Joshua Gonzalez, a senior, said. Gonzalez believes the unlimited number of seats can be the difference between only being seen by your parents or family. Most seniors graduating from high school want all their family around them for their big day, not just their immediate family. Can the class provide the promised unlimited seats, and allow everyone’s family to come and watch them on their big day?
This year, Mr. Duran, the principal, looked to change this problem, saying: “This year at graduation, there will be unlimited seats for you and your families to come and see.” His plans for unlimited seating have already been set in motion, with a total of 214 students in the class, Duran has prepared 1000 seats for the spectacle. Although 1000 seats aren’t “unlimited” as Duran stated, they will accommodate this with standing room on the field. Behind the parent’s section on the field, there will be an overflow area for parents or family members to come and watch. Plan accordingly, as the overflow area still isn’t unlimited and will be closed once it reaches capacity.
