In its sixth year of operation, the Wolfpack Times continues to represent the voice of the MACES student body. This year’s team is notably smaller, comprising six dedicated students, their advisor, and the school mascot. Despite the reduced size, the team’s commitment to delivering news remains strong. We are excited to introduce our talented staff members of 24’-25’ Read their bios below for more info.

Ricardo Santiago, Editor-In-Chief:
Ricardo, a senior at MACES, is a first-time journalist for the Wolfpack Times. He plays libero on the boys’ varsity volleyball team and manages the girls’ volleyball team. In addition, Ricardo represents the scholastic division in the Academic Decathlon. Despite joking that it’s a pain, he enjoys the challenge, as it reflects his love for learning and competition. Ricardo is new to the newspaper, however, his outspoken nature and writing skills make up for any initial uncertainties. He hopes to leave a lasting legacy at MACES, inspired by the words of Chuck Palahniuk: “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever; the goal is to create something that will.”

Emily Estrada, Managing editor:
Emily Estrada, a junior at MACES, is a third-year returner to the Wolfpack Times. She can seem very quiet but is very talkative once she gets to know you. A few of her interests are music, Hello Kitty, Harry Potter, and baking. She enjoys spending time with her friends, playing with her dog, and trying out new matcha recipes. If you can’t find her she is most likely in Mr. Cottom’s class working on the newspaper. She is excited to be returning to the Wolfpack Times team and is hoping to make a positive change this year for the team.

Santiago Munoz, Opinion editor:
Santiago Munoz, a junior at MACES, is a first-time journalist for the Wolfpack Times. He hopes to make a difference in not only the Wolfpack Times, but as well as the school as a whole. Some things that peak his interests are watching the NFL and the NBA, listening to music, and playing video games with friends. He really appreciates a good time with friends and the feeling that those around him are having a good time as well. You will most likely see him among friends, doing homework, or working on his fantasy football team this year. He is excited for what is in store for the Wolfpack Times and what he can provide for it.

Jocelyn Piceno, Features editor:
Jocelyn Piceno, a senior at MACES, is a first-time journalist for the Wolfpack Times. She is interested in exploring the intricate world of journalism. Jocelyn has enjoyed writing stories her whole life and is taking that next step to be a published journalist. Jocelyn loves to listen to music, organize everything, and read, with a strong interest in romance and dystopian. Her film interests include Marvel, Harry Potter, the Maze Runner, and crime documentaries. Through her love for writing and the inspiration of her favorite authors, Jocelyn hopes to bring her skills and assets to the newspaper as the features editor.

Maximiliano Gonzalez, A&E editor:
Maximiliano Gonzalez, a junior at MACES, is a second-time journalist for the Wolfpack Times. He was born and raised in Huntington Park. During his free time, he likes to take walks in parks, listen to music, play with his radio-controlled truck, or play video games. He has a lot of experience taking pictures and significant reporting experience, yet still hopes to improve on everything this year.

Patrick Benavidez, Sports editor:
Patrick Benavidez, a junior at MACES, is a first-time journalist for the Wolfpack Times. He is a new member of the journalism staff, having joined at the start of the new school year. He has had an interest in writing his whole life and hopes to have a career in sports journalism in the future after high school. In his free time, Patrick likes to spend time with friends, listen to music, play video games as well as play baseball. He enjoys the company of friends as it gives him someone to talk to at any time of day. One of his favorite movies of all time is “Forrest Gump”. He hopes to leave an impact on the school by providing more insight to what happens inside of the school’s sports.
