Senior Mohamad Hijazi, a striker on the varsity boys soccer team at MACES, has been named Athlete of the Month for his standout performance this season.
“He scores the most goals,” says Magaly Guzman, ASB Vice President and fan of MACES boys’ soccer, highlighting Hijazi’s offensive strength. “The stats speak for themselves,” says Hijazi of his contributions on the field. Despite joining the team late, Hijazi quickly made a significant impact, scoring goals and playing a key role in the team’s success.
Hijazi’s leadership extends beyond his scoring. “I’m proud of giving my full effort every game, scoring goals, and keeping my teammates motivated to improve,” Hijazi said. His ability to keep his teammates focused and motivated, especially during tough moments in games, has been a crucial factor in the team’s performance.
Motivation for Hijazi comes from both the team’s potential for success and his coach’s influence. “What [keeps] me motivated is thinking about the success we’ll achieve,” says Hijazi. “Our coach’s understanding of the game has us all believing in a great season.”
Balancing soccer with schoolwork is a challenge, but Hijazi makes it work. “Playing soccer is something I’ve loved since I was a toddler,” Hijazi said. “It wasn’t hard because I make every minute of free time count.”
Reflecting on the recognition, Hijazi expresses gratitude for his teammates. “It’s a pleasure to be named player of the month for a squad with such good talent. I’m grateful for everyone with me this season,” Hijazi said.
