Prom is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for seniors. The themes for this event are decided by votes made by ASB leadership. The prom theme that was decided for the class of 2025 is masquerade. Masquerade is a fun, mysterious theme that allows the students to wear any kind of mask and gives them a wide choice of outfits.
“I love this year’s prom theme, I think it’s unique and different from the theme MACES has had in the past,” Emily Gracian, a senior and ASB class president of 2025, said.
Gracian is excited about this year’s prom, as the theme “gives more things to do to get ready for prom.” According to Gracian, the prom will be held at Quiet Cannon, Montebello. This year’s theme is something new for MACES. As Gracian put it, “I think it’s unique because we’ve always done Hollywood, and we’ve never done masks.” Overall, Gracian rated this theme a nine out of ten.
“I love it.” I think it’s great.” Isael Perez, a senior and ASB Secretary of the class of 2025, said. Perez feels that if he were to choose the theme casino night would be the best choice because of the “formal wear.” Perez still feels neutral about prom but says his class is “fun,” so regardless of the theme he’d still be having fun. He gave this year’s prom a rating of seven out of ten because it’s overused and not original along with being able to dress in any way but just in a mask.
“My opinion on the prom theme is that I think a masquerade theme gives off a cool vibe to this year’s prom. It’s mysterious, mystical, and will have a more intriguing look,” Stephanie Medina, a senior, said. She finds this year’s theme “unique but a little overused,” but still finds this theme intriguing and luxurious. “I feel more excited to attend prom, since it’ll be a mystery to know who is who due to masquerade,” Medina said. She also feels intrigued by the dark royal appearance the masks will bring. Medina rates this year’s prom theme an eight out of ten because it’s a mysterious, dark, and luxurious theme which she finds interest in.
“I think that this year’s prom theme is good, but also I do think that this theme is overused and it does sound somewhat similar to the rest of the themes this school has had,” Mariana De Avila, a senior, said. She feels that the theme doesn’t affect her excitement for prom but only impacts the color scheme the students will choose to wear. If it was up to her Avila would have chosen casino night because, “it could have been way more interesting and the decoration would have been so cute,” along with bringing more interest because it’s “something new.” Overall she rated the theme a seven out of ten because it could be more unique.
“I am very happy with the masquerade theme, although I wanted the theme to be casino night but the vintage fifties, sixties is so cute,” Natalie Ybarra, a senior said. Ybarra felt “kind of disappointed,” to hear what the theme was but envisioned an entire masquerade prom in her head which made her change her mind. There are a lot of different themes for prom, some original and some overused, “This year’s theme is one thousand million percent overused, but there is no theme that hasn’t been already used for proms,” Ybarra said. Students sometimes have their own opinion when it comes to prom themes Ybarra would’ve chosen casino night because, “of the multiple colors in a casino and it allows everyone to dress differently instead of everyone looking similar.” She rated the theme an eight out of ten, because, although it is overused, “I’m a sucker for vintage,” Ybarra, said.
