The haunting season is coming to MACES, and as the autumn leaves begin to fall, jack-o-lanterns start lighting up the night. The age-old debate has re-surfaced from its grave, which movie reigns supreme as the best Halloween flick? Classic horror night thrillers like SAW, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and FRIDAY THE 13th; are all favorites in their own right. Family staples such as NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, FRANKENWEENIE, and CORALINE, but which of these movies took our students and staff’s hearts on a ride of horror and joy?
Now let’s take a deep dive into the Staff’s choices for the ultimate spooky movie! The number three pick for best Halloween movie chosen by staff is CORALINE. While exploring her new home, a girl CORALINE discovers a mysterious door, which behind lies a worl
d that closely resembles her own, but in many ways is better. Although quickly she comes to find the true intentions of her parallel mother. CORALINE is a fan but it just couldn’t beat THE EXORCIST, being one of the most profitable movies ever, it’s based on a young girl who starts acting strange, as the mother worries more and more for her daughter and begins to lose hope, a local priest suggest a demon has taken over the child, and requested to perform an exorcism.
Even though THE EXORCIST was one of the most profitable movies of all time, it just couldn’t win the hearts of our staff like NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. This film is based on the misadventure of Jack Skellington, who has become bored with the same routine of frightening people in the “human world”. However, one day he stumbles upon a door that leads him to Christmastown changes his perspective on life, and leads to him wanting to take over Christmas. The staff loved this movie, many of them labeled this the best movie to prepare for the spooky season.
Although the staff chose many family favorites, the Wolfpack thought otherwise about what could be labeled the best spooky movie. The third movie voted by the students is HALLOWEEN, in 1963 7-year-old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old si
ster. After being locked away for 15 years, Michael returns to his hometown searching for his next victim. Although HALLOWEEN is a classic, it couldn’t match up to THE NUN. When a group of nuns dies in a cloistered abbey in Romania, a priest is sent out with a novice nun who has a mysterious past to investigate. THE NUN may have been one of the best horror movies of all time, scaring audiences in ways not thought of before, but still, it couldn’t win Wolfpack’s hearts like THE CONJURING. THE CONJURING is a movie based on “real” events of a family moving into a house in the forest, it doesn’t take long for strange events to occur and lead to the includement of paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed to come to the family’s aid. This movie was not only the start of one of the best horror series but also took the world by storm. The director took inspiration from a “real” story to create this movie, although changing it for a more theater-friendly film, many events that occurred in the movie are believed to have been “real”. This is why the Wolfpack considers it one of the best Halloween movies for a spooky season.
