While some towns, like Jacksonville, Illinois, and Rayne, Louisiana, impose age limits of 13 (crazy by the way), I think here at MACES, students are never too old to dress up and go door-to-door for some candy.
A recent poll by @wolfpacktimes shows that 72% of our student body on instagram (98 poll voters) thinks there should be no age limit for trick-or-treating. This strong response reflects our community’s spirit; after all, Halloween is the one night a year when teenagers can dress like… total free spirits and no one else can say anything about it. It’s a special opportunity for our students to express themselves through costumes, especially considering our uniform code is mandatory the rest of the year.
While there may come an age when knocking on your neighbor’s door feels awkward, this doesn’t have to mark the end of the tradition, after all “dressing up and being creative doesn’t end at a specific age,” Chelsea Sanchez, a senior and halloween fanatic says. Instead, you can find ways to avoid your neighbor’s judgmental gaze, like going out with friends or accompanying your younger siblings.
In a country where the clock never stops ticking, remember to hold onto the magic while you still have it. I encourage you to put on your costume and hit the streets for candy. After all, the age limit for trick-or-treating doesn’t exist!
