In a season filled with ambition, two players have come together as the driving force behind the Wolfpack girl’s volleyball team: co-captains and seniors Alexa Godoy and Priscilla Anderson. With their unique blend of skill and leadership, Anderson, a powerful outside hitter, and Godoy, a strategic setter, have created a positive environment for their teammates both on and off the court. Together, they embody the spirit of collaboration by uniting the team with a shared vision of success and teamwork.
While selecting their co-captains for the season, Coach Gomez and Ostos both recognized who would excel in this position. “Both captains were easy to choose, the team looked towards Priscilla and Alexa as leaders so it was clear who were the captains,” Gomez said. They chose players who not only stand out because of their individual skills but also demonstrate a remarkable ability to uplift their teammates, even through hard times.
Of course, every sport has its tough moments. Overall, it’s the ability to stay calm and keep playing at your very best that allows you to stand out from others. Both co-captains have shown this by being capable of continuing to play strong even throughout these tough situations. “Although it is not easy to stay positive when the team isn’t performing well, they never give up hope and play the best they can,” Ostos said.
Both co-captains have also proven their dedication through consistent hard work and attendance. “They lead by example, first ones in, last ones out! They are at the front of the drills and conditioning. They encourage the younger girl’s to do their best,” Gomez said.
Being given this responsibility, Godoy and Anderson don’t take this job lightly. Being a captain is more about just leading on the court; it embodies the spirit of teamwork, responsibility, and resilience. “My goal is to make sure they don’t burn out and are enjoying volleyball because at the end of the day they shouldn’t feel forced or pressured to play, they should be happy and enjoy playing,” Godoy said.
Godoy and Anderson are serving as role models, leading by example through challenges while creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Having a positive and supportive environment can truly make a huge difference in how the girl’s perform in a match. “I believe I try my best to let them know that I’m there for them and I’ll have their back if they make a mistake. Here and there I’ll try to make them laugh or smile because once we stop having fun we’re not going to play the way we know we can play,” Anderson said.
After Godoy and Anderson graduate, this season will remain as memories for both themselves and their teammates based on their everlasting impact that they created for the team. Although it may not cross their minds, they will surely be remembered by their teammates and the crowds that they’ve played in front of many times. “With sports you always meet new people and make new friendships that are great and last a lifetime,” Anderson said.
