Los Angeles Back in Lock-Down
LOCKDOWN SHUTS DOWN NON ESSENTIAL BUSINESS- Many businesses are forced to close their doors not long after being able to reopen. “It hurts to see many lose their jobs because of the pandemic, but if the lock down helps to slow down the spread then we have to do our part,” Diego Toscano, a senior, said.

On December 8, alerts were sent to residents of Los Angeles announcing a stay-at-home order that can last until December 20 because of the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases.
With the COVID-19 vaccine approved and being applied to citizens, California state governor, Gavin Newsom, has ordered the citizens to stay at home to curve the line. According to covid19.ca.gov, everyone in California must wear a mask outdoors and indoors when not social-distancing. “We won’t be having others over this Christmas since it is more interactive among people and passing out presents makes people become more touchy,”an anonymous mother said. As it begins to get colder during the winter, COVID-19 cases are sure to rise.

Schools that were participating in hybrid-learning are now closed. “I didn’t want to participate in hybrid-learning, because I am scared of someone being infected and passing on through the school, and I am not trying to put anyone of my family members at risk,” Christopher Ascencio, a senior, said. Schools can be hotspots for a virus to spread. This not only puts the students at risk but older family members they come into contact with can contract it as well.
In the first wave of the COVID-19 cases, stores were going out of stock because of panic-purchasing excessive essential items. People collected toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer, leaving elders and people who could not go shopping with nothing. “I have no idea if there will be panic-buyers, but hopefully [that’s not the case and people have common sense that only one thing per person because we’re all in this together,” Ethan Roman, a sophomore, said. Now, with Christmas around the corner and cases skyrocketing. Another much stricter lock-down many stores are stacking up in essential items to prevent another shortage in supplies.
