It’s a Friday night, the football team is back on the field, and once again the Wolfpack cheer team is back in season! The team’s season is underway and the cheerleaders are having a great time so far. “The girls and [one] boy have been having a wonderful time cheering on our football team regardless if we win or lose,” Coach Perfecto said.
Coach Perfecto is the head coach of the Wolfpack cheer team and has received additional assistance from team captains Alejandra Olmos, Erick Sanchez, and Kaylee Sanchez. They have all contributed to the team’s success and cheerfulness this season. “My coach has greatly impacted my form in both stretches and workouts which has been very helpful because now my skills have progressed,” Emily Ruiz, a junior, said.
Although, the team has experienced a few minor setbacks this season. Due to the number of teams that have been starting early conditioning this year, the usage of practice spaces has been at full capacity. This has caused the team to push back their practice from early in the day to 5-7 p.m.
Despite these minor issues, the team has made the best out of their situation. They have been motivated to improve in the past few months. “The environment in cheer is very welcoming and helpful…As the season began, I surrounded myself with new people and I got to make new friends. Everyone was very kind and helped me learn new cheers and stunts,” Giselle Villagran, a sophomore, said.
To the team, cheer is a very meaningful sport and an amazing experience that’s helped cheerleaders become better overall. “Cheer has helped me become more comfortable with myself and has made me work towards goals,” Ruiz said.
