October 7, 2023, was when a Hamas group led a surprise attack to invade Israel and started to cause chaos for the citizens who lived in Israel. For the past two years, Gaza and Israel have been sending bombs and missiles, resulting in the people of Israel losing their homes, and the losses of families and friends. The US has been sending military support to Israel because of this war, but this ceasefire agreement is seemingly the next step in peace for Gaza and Israel.
Moreover, the impact is greater than we thought. Fatima Saab, a sophomore, said, “Family friends that are over in the West Bank are having a hard time getting food and being able to go see doctors.” Saab also said, “Houses that are in Lebanon have been destroyed because of this war.”
Recently on October 13, Donald Trump had announced that he made a ceasefire to stop the Gaza and Israel war. Donald Trump along with other regional world leaders, gathered in a resort in Sharm El-Sheikh Egypt. They signed the ceasefire with the main points of the ceasefire being stated, Hamas disarmament, Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, as well as how the Gaza strip will be governed after this ceasefire.
Samantha Castro, a sophomore, said, “No, this war has been going on for hundreds of years between Gaza and Israel.” Castro also says “Probably not. This conflict between Gaza and Israel is very complicated and it has been going on for so long.”
Some people who are kept up-to-date with the war believe that the ceasefire will last; But some people don’t agree. Dr Yi, a world history teacher said, “I am skeptical that it’ll last. I think the Israelis will continue to fight the other side, and the other side will fight back. There have been 50 deaths already because of this war… I don’t think [the conflict] will stop any time soon.”
