For years, school lunches have been provided by the school for free. It’s not fair that after all the free school lunches, students should start paying now. A quote from the article “Should All Schools Provide Free Lunches,” Jeremy Engle writes, “After all, free school meals can ease hunger and lead to better performance in class.”
School lunches should continue to be free due to the fact that some kids can’t afford the food due to their economic status. No matter what the circumstances are, schools should never charge kids for school lunches.
On the plus side, it should stay free because free food helps students get through the day after the seven hours of school. Students need to receive the proper amount of nutrition, which helps improve their academic performance and reduces the amount of negative thoughts.
Daniel Carrasco, a sophomore, who gets school lunch every day, thinks it’s going to leave a negative impact on students considering that most kids don’t have jobs and money is tight. On the other hand Julian Zuniga, a sophomore, who gets lunch every day, believes it’s going to leave a negative impact on students because students are not able to afford school lunches. Lastly, Benjamin Rodriguez, a sophomore, gets school lunch three times a day, and thinks that this will leave a negative impact on the students due to the families that are low on money.
Luckily, Dr. Salvador Torres, the principal, is not applying this rule to the school. He thinks that it is unfair to add this rule because the community is focusing on needs and unable to pay for their kids’ lunches. Plus on top of that, they have to pay for their kids’ lunch every day. He thinks that this will leave a negative impact on students due to the fact that kids can’t afford the school lunches. This was a great idea from the principal since many families can’t afford school lunches every day.
School lunches are meant to be healthy and balanced so students get the right nutrients to help them learn and grow. They usually have a mix of food groups like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy. These meals are planned to give important vitamins and minerals while keeping things like unhealthy fats, added sugars, and too much salt in check. By offering healthier options, school lunches help students develop good eating habits, stay energized throughout the day, and stay healthy overall.
At the end of the day, no kid should have to worry about paying for lunch. School is hard enough without being hungry. And make sure every student gets a meal, to show that we care about them and want them to succeed. It’s not just about food; it’s about kindness and making school a place where everyone feels supported.
