The wrestling team has a new head coach Mike Lopez. He brings 20 years of coaching experience, and is already transforming the team’s approach this season.
Coach Mike turned to wrestling as his second choice after missing the deadline to join the football team during his freshman year at Bell High School. One thing that motivated him to take the coaching position here for wrestling was his long friendship with Ms Carvajal.“She told me that this was a good place and that we could build something special,” Coach Lopez said.
“His goals for this season are to build a team, compete in as many matches as possible, and have fun while doing so,” Lopez said. When asked about areas for improvement, he emphasized that the team is still young. “We’re just building it,” he explained, “just showing up every day and trying to learn something new every day. We are keeping it basic this year.”
Lopez also shared what he believes will be a challenge for the team this season: rising to the level needed to compete for a league title. “I have my eyes set on winning a league title,” Coach Lopez said. He has confidence in his team, pushing them to work with motivation and chase something big for themselves.
As the season evolves, Coach Lopez’s approach emphasizes daily improvement and high expectations for the team. Under Lopez’s leadership, the team isn’t just preparing for their matches; they are preparing to win a league title.
