Aren Campos, a junior standout golfer for the MACES golf team, has been named Athlete of the Month for his impressive performance and consistent improvement.
Campos started playing golf to get out of class but soon discovered a passion for the sport. “As I got better and started feeling the game, I realized how much I liked it,” he says. “Golf challenges me mentally, which helps me stay calm when I have to make important shots or decisions.”
What keeps Campos motivated is both his progress and the support of his coach and family. “My coach pushes me to develop my skills, and my mom believes in me, which helps me keep going,” he says.
Campos’s biggest achievement has been lowering his score with each game. “Seeing my scores improve and getting closer to breaking my personal best has been my greatest achievement,” he explains. In golf, a lower score means getting the ball into the cup in fewer strokes, which indicates better accuracy and strategic play on the course.
A standout moment this season was making putts from over 10 feet. “Making those putts felt great and saved me from breaking the rules I set for myself,” he says.
Campos’s goal for the season is to break his personal best score of 36. “I want to break my PR, but I also want to help my teammates improve and build their confidence,” Campos says.
Balancing sports and school isn’t easy, but Campos manages by staying on top of his assignments. “I finish my schoolwork over the weekend so it doesn’t interfere with my game,” he says.
Being named Athlete of the Month is a huge honor for Campos. “I’m grateful for the recognition,” he reflects.
