Senior night for the girls soccer team marked an emotional and meaningful evening, as it not only celebrated a strong 5–0 victory against Torres High School on Feb. 5, but also highlighted the lasting impact the seniors have had on the team through their dedication, leadership, and bond with their teammates.
The seniors recognized included Diana Moreno, Dililah Robinson, Nina Caldera, and Jacklyn Reyes, each were acknowledged for their commitment and leadership throughout their time on the team. When asked how they felt about playing their final home game, Diana Moreno, a senior defender, said it was sentimental and a crazy feeling. “I’m very sentimental about it. I’ve been playing for three years. It’s just crazy to think that those three years went by fast. I definitely have so much love and appreciation for my team,” she said.
Looking ahead, Dililah Robinson, a senior who plays Forward, shared her future plans for the sport. “I definitely do want to play in college. I’ve been thinking about it since I joined freshman year, and I really think about it besides my initial career choice,” Robinson said. Moreno, who is also a senior in soccer offered advice to underclassmen, saying to play to their fullest, for the fun and love of the game.
Moreno also shared one of her favorite memories. “One of my favorite memories with the team has to be a recent one. There was a moment during practice when many students chose not to come to school to protest against ICE. It was really important because, as a daughter of an immigrant, I stand with my dad and the rest of my family. We had a moment where it wasn’t just the coach, but our teammates stood with me and many of the other teams that saw why we wanted to protest and what we stand for. I think that’s one of my favorite memories of the season and with my teammates,” Moreno said.
For her last game, Robinson said her main goal was “to have fun but also communicate better and just enjoy this last home game with my team.” She also shared advice she would give her younger self. “Originally, I always felt off my freshman year when I didn’t end up making the varsity team that I wanted to. I would say to be patient about it because even if it won’t come this year, it’s gonna come by sophomore year. I just need to keep working hard, staying committed, and going with the flow.” Moreno said the person she would miss the most is Kayla Miranda, a junior who plays soccer. “We haven’t been friends for a long time, but it felt like forever. I think she’s one of my closest friends, and I am going to miss her,” Moreno said.
While Robinson said she would miss Sophia Pulido who is a sophomore in soccer. “I’ve only known her since last year because that was her freshman year of joining. She’s just a really amazing person to talk to. She’s very fun, she’s very silly, and just overall an amazing person. I am just really happy to get to know her and be able to play with her,” Robinson said.
The 5-0 win was a fitting conclusion to their final home game. Senior night served as a celebration of their commitment, growth and impact on the team.
