Going into the 2025 season, the Wolfpack were coming off their first winning season, where they won six games and had four losses, since the 2021 season, where they had eight wins and four losses. Although they missed the playoffs, it was a major step up from the past few seasons.
Prior to this season, the Wolfpack had only had two winning seasons in the past seven years. A win this week made it the first time in school history that the varsity football team had back-to-back winning seasons.
The Wolfpack have been excellent on offense this season, averaging 33.9 points per game as well as averaging 7.2 yards per carry as a team. “We work hard to perfect the way we play on offense during practice. When our coaches motivate us, we all have to do our jobs or else we would crumble as a group under the pressure,” Ronaldo Morales, a senior, said.
Although some of the defensive counting stat numbers are down, the defense is only allowing 15.2 points per game, a significant improvement from the 19.7 allowed last year. “Better discipline has led to us being more organized and coordinated on the defensive side. We used the outcome of last season as motivation, knowing the talent we had, to improve this year,” Kato Carpio, a junior, said.
After their win against Los Angeles High School, the Wolfpack clinched their first league division title since the 2021 season, finishing with a record of 6-4.
“I’m really proud of how far we’ve all come as a team. From going 1-9 our freshman year to being 6-4 last year, we’re proving the point that despite coming from a small school and city, we can still accomplish great things. Every year, the team has stepped up and become better disciplined on and off the field,” Dominic Angulo, a senior, said.
The Wolfpack began their playoff run with a home game against Fremont High School, whom they had previously lost to 30-15 two weeks earlier. The Wolfpack are looking for their first playoff win since 2021, with a lot of hope heading into this week’s matchup.
